Even before people saw a thaw in Captain Amarinder Singh inviting his beta noir Navjot Singh Sidhu for an hour-long luncheon on Wednesday, the Punjab chief minister hit the suggestion out of the window.
“People often make a mountain of a molehill. Navjot Ji wanted to meet me, so I said sure, come, have lunch. I call so many of my colleagues, who want to meet me, for lunch. So I invited him just like that. He came, sat for an hour, we talked a lot. We talked about cricket,” he said.
There was speculation that Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is also considered close to Gandhi, can either be made the Punjab Congress chief or a deputy chief minister, the post which he has been demanding ever since he joined the Congress. However, Amarinder has maintained that he would not accept Sidhu back in his government
Sidhu had been vocal about the farmers’ protest, and some of his criticism has been directed at his own party’s government in the state.
It was after the intervention from former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat that relations between the two were improved.
Over the last month, Sidhu had avoided any criticism of the Chief Minister and even supported his march against the farm laws in Delhi.
Both the leaders were earlier seen together last month during the party’s tractor rally against the Centre’s three agri-laws.
