15 BJP workers injured; 6 hospitalized: BJP accuse Trinamool Congress

The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress workers of attacking its workers after they were returning home from a rally addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Midnapore. Some reports said that at least 15 BJP workers were injured and six had to be hospitalised. Some cars used by them were badly damaged in these attacks, reportedly carried out by TMC workers.

The attackers used stones and bricks to target the returning BJP workers. Some of them alleged that petrol bombs (Molotov cocktails) were hurled at their vehicles.

Referring to political violence in West Bengal, Shah said that these “attacks on BJP are only making it stronger”. He said: “More than 300 BJP workers have lost their lives in Bengal. Didi, do you think we will get scared of all this? The more TMC attacks us, the more aggressively we will compete with you.”

Senior BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said his party’s strong shows in Bengal have unnerved the Mamata Banerjee government. He said: “Bengal has become a symbol of anarchy and unconstitutionalism. There is no law and order in West Bengal.”
