Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has received a sharp word from the family of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar, one of the greatest women rulers in Indian history: Reason? The mouthpiece of Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, “Saamna” has a piece in which Mamata Banerjee has been compared to Ahilyabai.
Shrimant Bhushan Singh raje Holkar, in this letter to Thackeray, said it’s shameful to compare national leaders to today’s politicians for petty gains. Damningly, the letter says that Ahilyabai who dedicated her entire life serving the nation and people, can’t possibly be compared to a politician who oppresses her own people for politics.
The Holkar family further said the comparison just exposed the ideological competence of the writer. (below is the image of the letter).
In the editorial piece in Saamna, Raut had hinted at Banerjee as an emerging opposition leader and compared her to Ahilyabai Hokar.
Raut had earlier recommended NCP supremo Sharad Pawar to lead the UPA against the ruling BJP.
Ahilyabai was not only a renowned fighter, she was also well-versed in several languages and dialects. Her life and dedication to her people, and their safety, is one of Indian history’s glorious chapters.
