A Double Bench of Bombay High Court comprising Justices S S Shinde and M S Karnik on Monday refused bail to Arnab Goswami. The Bench said he could approach the sessions court at Alibaug in Raigad district for regular bail.
The court said that its decision will not have any bearing on the proceedings in the Raigad court. “No prima facie case has been made out by petitioner for invoking extraordinary jurisdiction,” the court said in its order.
The order also pointed out that the petitioner had “remedy before the sessions court” and that could be availed. Arnab had been sent to 14 days judicial custody some days ago and had applied for interim bail in the high court.
Arnab Goswami was arrested by the Mumbai Police in an abetment to suicide case. Goswami, Feroz Shaikh and Nitesh Sarda have been accused of refusing payments to an interior designer Anvay Naik. According to a suicide note left behind by Naik, the trio had refused to Rs 5.4 crore they owed to him.
