Bihar Polls: Big 54% turnout in 2nd phase too; Modi, Nitish train guns on Opposition

The second phase of the Bihar assembly elections 2020 was as good as the first one with around 54 per cent turning out to vote. In all polling took place across 17 districts of the state and 94 constituencies.

RJD leader and Grand Alliance’s chief minister candidate Tejashwi Yadav and his brother Tej Pratap Yadav were among the high profile candidates in today’s phase. The ruling JDU contested 43 seats, their NDA ally Bharatiya Janata Party 46 while the RJD took the battle in 56 seats.

The day was not without drama. An onion was thrown at chief minister Nitish Kumar while he was addressing a public rally for the third phase of elections in Madhubani district. However, it didn’t hit him and he was immediately given cover by his security ring.s Nitish, known for his cool demeanour, kept his composure and said whosoever wanted to throw anything at him was welcome to do so.

Addressing the large gathering, Nitish Kumar said: “How can (Tejashwi Yadav) promise 10 lakh government jobs when Lalu Yadav could not provide jobs to people in 15 years of RJD rule? In 15 years, they only gave 95,000 jobs compared to six lakh government jobs given in our rule, he said.

Nitish Kumar, 69, is aiming for his fourth straight term in Bihar.

Addressing a rally in Saharsa, Modi said proponents of “jungle raj” in Bihar didn’t want the people of the state to chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai” or “Jai Shri Ram.” This rally, again, was for the third phase of the elections.

“There is a group of people that doesn’t want you to say Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ or `Jai Shri Ram.’ All of them have now come together and asking for votes from the people of Bihar. There is a need to give a befitting answer to such people during the Bihar elections,” he said.

Further, he said: “Every citizen of Bihar is well aware of the betrayal by the jungle raj against the capability of Bihar. Those who repeatedly chanted the name of the poor kept the poor away from elections.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has addressed sparsely, said in a rally today: “Every youth of Bihar knows that Narendra Modi and Nitishji have

Together looted Bihar. They have destroyed Bihar’s small shopkeepers. And now the youth and the farmer of Bihar have decided to vote for Grand Alliance.”
