Can God Save India? With protests, scams, media dogging us at every step?

India is currently in the grip of all sorts of protests because of all sorts of scams. Indian media, not known for its prowess, is very upset that they have to go to North Delhi every day early in the cold mornings and think wistfully of last year’s South Delhi protests which were closer home for most of them.

Bankers are protesting about financial scams by corporates. Corporates, on the other hand, complain about how banks and all sorts of paperwork issues are making their life difficult. The investigative agencies are in the Justice Delivery System, which in turn is over-loaded, and therein lies another truth.

Farmers are protesting about mandi and APMC issues. We have not yet reached the Food Corporation of India on quality and quantity of grain stocks. And not many talk about simple things like – why does the mandi not return the empty gunny sacks? Luckily the tukde-tukde gangs have been thrown out.

Electronic toll collection has thrown lots of people who were in the cash business out of work while direct revenue to the Government has gone up by 50%. If you knew the cash business in tolls, then you will understand why many secular people and their parties are hugely upset, so more protests.

Indian Railways uncovers a new TatKal booking scam every now and then, going back for as long as I can remember, based on the unfortunate habit of having fixed starting times for TatKal tickets. The solutions are simple, but the scams are probably more remunerative, so they continue.

Real estate business is slowly but steadily becoming more transparent, not only is RERA having an impact, but even old land records are being updated and frauds being uncovered going back decades. recent amendments to Bills made in the 19th Century have removed many real estate games and benefits to crooks therein.

Scams faced on roads by commercial vehicle operators are in a separate league by themselves. Every time one scam is resolved, another three appear on the horizon, and all that goes up is the end cost to customer, shipper, consignee and more. VIPs are exempt, of course, from everything on our roads.

The “common man” in India, however, is slowly but steadily becoming a “citizen”. However, stepping out on the road, and looking at the mess around – often thinks to himself or herself – “only God can help this Country”. He or she then goes to a House of Religion and places some money there, in the hope that something good will happen, somewhere.

But wait – is that really true? Can God really save India? Is religion in India, and therefore God, free of the effect of scams?

So here’s a quick challenge on figuring out religion linked scams. This is globally applicable. To all religions and non-religions.

1) Select any religion or religions. You can also select non-religion entities if you want to, the types who say “there is no God”, and choose from many there.

2) Run a search on any online search engine with the name of the religion or non-religion and add the words like “real estate financial scam fraud” or similar.

3) Read the results, digest, and then consider praying at home as an option. With random acts of charity as an additional option.

Veeresh Malik was a seafarer. And a lot more besides. A decade in facial biometrics, which took him into the world of finance, gaming, preventive defence and money laundering before the subliminal mind management technology blew his brains out. His romance with the media endures since 1994, duly responded by Outlook, among others.

A survivor of two brain-strokes, triggered by a ship explosion in the 70s, Veeresh moved beyond fear decades ago.
