Congress workers, without masks, vandalize beverage company office on ‘spoof’ ad

Mumbai Police detained eight workers of the Congress on Tuesday after they allegedly barged into an office of a beverage company and vandalised the premises to protest against a recent advertisement by the Storia company, which, they alleged, appeared to mock Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son and senior party leader Rahul Gandhi (below).

The Congress workers, who were not wearing masks created a ruckus outside the office of Storia Foods while also shouting slogans. Police officials tried to control the crowd.

The group was led by Nitin Sawant, general secretary of the Mumbai Congress along with youth congress workers

Taking the matter into consideration, the MIDC police also registered an FIR into the incident. However, the FIR only pertained to violating Covid guidelines and not vandalism.

The Congress unit’s press statement said, “Storia Foods company has made an advertisement in which they have shown defamatory images of Congress leader and former president Rahul Gandhi and incumbent Congress President Sonia Gandhi. To condemn this, on the directions of Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap, general secretary Nitin Sawant and Mumbai Youth Congress leaders vandalised the office of Storia Foods at Mumbai in Andheri East.”

MLC Jagtap, tweeted a video of the incident and applauded party members for their “good work”.

“Congratulations and appreciation to Mumbai Congress General Secretary Nitin Sawant and Youth Congress workers for responding to the defamation of Revered Soniaji Gandhi and Revered Rahul ji Gandhi by STORIA Company through advertisements. It should be noted that such dirty trades will not be tolerated,” he tweeted.
