Farmers’ protest over? Tikait in Gujarat draws a few dozens in rally

Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait is on a two-day tour of Gujarat since Sunday to campaign against the Centre’s three farm laws however, according to a report, he has received an extremely tepid response, with not even 100 onlookers turning up.

The report says that on the first day of his scheduled visit to Ambaji and Palanpur but the public meet had meagre presence of local residents and that too mostly onlookers.

Furthermore, he also alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party government will not allow him to enter the state. Tikait showed his passport to reporters and said he had brought it “in case it is required to enter Gujarat”.

However, when asked if he is carrying a Covid-19 negative report which is mandatory while travelling in Gujarat, he replied,”I have all the documents with me. This is my passport if it is required to enter Gujarat”.

Also, this drama backfired him too. DeshGujarat reported that the state government wasn’t even interested in his visit and even arranged a police piloting for his convoy.

Yesterday, Tikait has threatened to start a farmers’ tractor agitation in Gujarat, and said time has come to gherao the state capital Gandhinagar and also break barricades if needed.

Talking to reporters outside the Sabarmati Ashram here, Tikait claimed farmers in Gujarat were unhappy and suffering.

Rakesh Tikait has been heading the farmer protest since months and a FIR was also filed in a police station in East Delhi, against him in connection with the Republic Day tractor rally violence.
