Gap between Covishield doses now recommended to 12-16 weeks

Amid the continuous hike in coronavirus cases across the country, the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) on Thursday recommended increasing the gap between two doses of Covishield covid-19 vaccine from 4-8 weeks to 12-16 weeks. No change for Covaxin dosage interval has been advised, sources added.

It has also suggested that pregnant women may be offered the choice to take any COVID-19 vaccine and that lactating women can be inoculated any time after delivery.

These recommendations will be implemented after the approval of the Health Ministry.

This is the second time in three months Covishield dosage intervals have been widened. Earlier in March states and UTs were told to increase the gap from 28 days to six-eight weeks “for better results”.
