Grand Thali Challenge: Eat 7kg of delicious Indian food if you could!

They could be gimmicks but they never fail to grab attention. Like a Bullet Thali challenge in Pune recently which promised a Royal Enfield bullet if one could eat a Thali of food, weighing 4 kg.

Now it emerges a similar challenge was thrown for diners in England. A restaurant named Lily’s Vegetarian Indian Cuisine in Ashton, Greater Manchester is serving a 7kg Grand Thali challenge. It’s served on a 24-inch platter with an assorted of 50 dishes. All you have to do is to finish the food in one hour.

On an image shared on Facebook, you could spot eight rotis, three types of rice, 16 curries and sabji, three dips, six desserts, two lassis and two savoury snacks. The thali is priced at 35 pounds sterling (Rs 3,611).

This week three foodies took up the challenge. As per London Mirror, 39-year-old Josh Sanders was favourite to win the challenge as he is a regular diner at the restaurant but he couldn’t go beyond eating 3kg of food. Two others, Tom Eastham and Leigh Drennan, tried their luck but failed too.

Drenan later shared on Facebook, admitting his failure: “I probably won’t eat for a few days now. It was absolutely delicious. Absolutely no food went to waste by the way.”
