India has done most vaccination after US, says Dr Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday informed that India is the second quickest country to vaccinate 23 crore people in 141 days just after the United States which achieved the same feat in 134 days.

As per Johns Hopkins University Centre official data, a total of 213,68,86,618 people have received vaccination across the globe.

So far, the United States has vaccinated 30 crore people, with India at second position with 23.27 crore, followed by the UK and Brazil with 6.89 crores and 6.73 crores people vaccinated to date.

“India is also one of the world’s fastest countries in terms of the number of doses administered so far. Out of 88.7 crore people who have been administered at least one dose globally, India accounts for 17.9 crore, which is 20.2 per cent of the global coverage,” said VK Paul, Niti Aayog member.

Considering the fully vaccinated population, US has fully vaccinated over 42 per cent of its people and UK is the next in line with 41 per cent. However, despite vaccinating 23 crore people, due to its massive population, India has so far fully vaccinated  4.47 crore people.

Meanwhile, China has inoculated 77 crore its citizen, highest so far, though their vaccination programme is still under ambiguity.

Even though the vaccination drive is on full swing around the world, the reports suggest that Interestingly, a whopping 94 per cent population is still vulnerable as only about 6 in every 100 people in the world have been vaccinated so far.

Seychelles has 67.47 per cent of its population protected against the deadly pandemic but then their population is only 1.36 lakhs. San Marino (63) and Israel (56 per cent) have also done a good job.
