Veteran actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan has been roped in by Trinamool Congress to campaign for its candidates in the ongoing West Bengal assembly polls.
Bachchan will use her Bengal connection to bolster the TMC’s election campaign and the party’s main poll slogan ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay’ (Bengal wants its own daughter).
The actor turned politician reportedly arrived in Kolkata on Sunday evening and is slated to campaign for the Trinamool Congress over the next few days. She will begin campaigning for MC candidate from Tollygunge Arup Biswas against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Babul Supriyo.
Supriyo is a two time MP and is confident his singer tag will help to establish a connection with the Tollygunge film fraternity.
The development comes days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to opposition leaders “for a united and effective struggle against the BJP’s attacks on democracy and Constitution” and suggested that a meeting should be held after the assembly polls
