Param Bir made unforgivable mistakes: Mah Home Minister

In the latest development, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has revealed that Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has not been removed under routine transfer, rather the action has been taken against the “serious and unforgivable mistakes” committed by him and his office.

While giving to the Marathi channel, Deshmukh said he was shifted to ensure that the probe into police officer Sachin Waze episode is conducted “properly and without hindrance”.

“Two agencies are probing…the NIA and the ATS… both are reputed agencies and are carrying out the investigations professionally…some junior officer (Vaze) has made a mistake, such mistakes cannot be ignored….he (Singh) is the overall incharge…it is better that he is posted elsewhere so that there is impartial probe,” Deshmukh told media.

Singh, who was under fire over the handling of the bomb scare outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house in south Mumbai, was on Wednesday transferred to the low-key Home Guard by the state government. Acting Director-General of Police of state Hemant Nagrale replaced Singh.

The transfer comes after the role of Mumbai Police Sachin Vaze has come under the scrutiny of investigative agencies. Vaze was recently arrested by the NIA in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case. It was also reported that Vaze had sought the CCTV footage of his own society, presumably with the purpose of destroying the evidence.
