Pawar regrets making Uddhav Thackeray the chief minister, says Marathi daily

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) patriarch Sharad Pawar is regretting making Uddhav Thackeray the chief minister of Maharashtra, said a news report in a Marathi media outlet Tarun Bharat.

The report claims that Sharad Pawar is unhappy at Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership style and that he has committed a big mistake by making Uddhav the chief minister of Maharashtra.

The report further mentions that Maharashtra CM has stopped answering Pawar’s phone calls after which the NCP chief confided in Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut that he made a big mistake by making Thackeray the chief minister.

These revelations were made by a senior Marathi journalist Anil Thatte while speaking at a program titled ‘West Bengal to Pandharpur’.

Thatte mentioned that Sharad Pawar said to Raut that either he or Eknath Shinde should have been made Maharashtra’s chief minister.

This damning statement came after Sanjay Raut kicked off the debate for the formation of an opposition front against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday.

Thatte meanwhile didn’t believe that Mamata Banerjee’s win in Bengal could be replicated in other states, including Maharashtra.

“Balasaheb (Thackeray) didn’t win power on his own. Sharad Pawar can never be the Mamata Banerjee of Maharashtra. Nor is it possible for Uddhav Thackeray. Pawar never have had more than 52-55 MLAs even when in power. It’s also impossible for Shiv Sena to replicate Mamata’s success. Further, Mamata too can’t come here (Maharashtra) and become their saviour,” said Thatte.

“Mamata’s political style is not digestible in Maharashtra. Also, Maha Vikas Aghadi does not have a capable leadership to stand up against Fadnavis. A rift in the ruling alliance in the state is inevitable. It will happen.”

There have been several instances over the past few months suggesting a lack of coordination within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government .

Earlier the sources close to NCP had revealed that Pawar wasn’t happy with the way the Sachin Vaze case was handled by the MVA government. “He is said to have expressed his displeasure over the attempt made by the chief minister and home department to shield the controversial police officer despite his role in the bomb scare case coming to the fore” the sources added.
