Raut-Fadnavis meet causes flutter in Cong-NCP camp; BJP-Shiv Sena again?
Congress and NCP are not in a happy place with the 'two-hour meeting' news between former allies, BJP's Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut, sources reported.
Sources also reported that NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat are in a discussion with Uddhav Thackeray at his home- 'Matoshree.'
The meeting was merely an interview and 'non-political', stated both Raut and Fadnavis. They both met in Mumbai at a luxury hotel on Saturday. Though they both have denied that the meeting was political, the news has taken social media by storm.
Keshav Upadhye, BJP Maharashtra spokesperson said, the meeting was for Fadnavis' tentative interview for Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana with Raut, post- Bihar polls. He also said that while the interview has been fixed, Fadnavis has told Raut to air the interview unedited, reportedly insisting on his camera to be present.
After NCP's Sharad Pawar, Fadnavis would be the second leader who is not from Shiv Sena to be interviewed by Saamana.
Raut has insisted that the meeting won't change political dimensions and cleared the doubts of NCP MP Majeed Memon and Congress' Sanjay Nirupam.
Raut also confirmed that Uddhav Thackeray, chief minister of Maharashtra was aware of the meeting.
It's been 35 years since the BJP and Shiv Sena's split in 2019 after the assembly polls. Raut has attacked BJP over issues since then, be it Shivar scheme, Jalyukt, Ram Mandir, Covid-19, Metro car shed, CAA, NRC, Farm Bills, etc. Shiv Sena government has also been criticised by Fadnavis over the management of Covid situation, recent Sushant Singh Rajput death probe, stay of SC on the Maratha reservation.
BJP had denied Shiv Sena's suggestion of 50:50 formula before the Maharashtra state polls of 2019. It has been alleged they wanted 26 portfolios for its ministers and had offered Sena 13 cabinet portfolios. Devendra Fadnavis had denied the Party's demand of sharing CM post for 2.5 years each.
