Russian vaccine, Sputnik V, arrives in Hyderabad; first consignment 1.5 lakh doses





The first consignment of the Russian-made Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Hyderabad on Saturday, May 1. 

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), in a tweet, said that Hyderabad customs expedited the clearance of the COVID-19 vaccine imported from Russia.

“Hyderabad Customs, @cgstcushyd facilitated expeditious clearance of #SputnikV Vaccine imported from Russia,” the CBIC tweeted.

The Ministry of External Affairs also released their statement, which mentioned, “Sputnik-V vaccine will add to India’s arsenal to fight the pandemic. This third option will augment our vaccine capacity & accelerate our vaccination drive. This is the first consignment of 1.5 lakh doses of Sputnik-V vaccine with millions of doses to follow.” 

The Russian-based manufacturers took to the official Twitter handle and informed about the arrival of the first batch in India. “The first batch of SputnikV vaccine arrives in Hyderabad, India! That’s the same day the country starts mass COVID vaccination drive covering its entire adult population. Let’s jointly defeat this pandemic. Together we are stronger, ” they wrote. 

Besides this, Russia delivered to India 20 tonnes of medical supplies mainly comprising oxygen concentrators, ventilators and medicines on Thursday as part of its assistance to help the country deal with the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic that has gripped several states and union territories.
