Delhi has a tunnel-like structure between the Vidhan Sabha and Red Fort, it was claimed by officials of the Delhi legislative assembly on Friday. As per Delhi assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel, while much is not known about the secret passage, it was “used by the Britishers to avoid reprisal while moving freedom fighters.”

Officials, claimed RepublicWorld, have decided to allow public visits to the tunnel from August 15 next year.

According to the visuals shared by ANI, the discovery was made after the flap of the green carpet of the House was peeled off.

The distance between Delhi assembly and Red Fort is 5.5 km and it takes almost 10 minutes to travel the distance on a vehicle.

In 2016 too, a secret passage was unearthed from below the floor of the parliamentary chamber.

The Delhi legislative assembly was built in 1911 when the British moved the Indian capital from Calcutta to Delhi.
