Vijay Rupani has stepped down as the chief minister of Gujarat. He handed his resignation as the chief minister of Gujarat to Governor, Acharya Devvrat.
“I have resigned from the post of Gujarat Chief Minister, I have conveyed my wishes to work in party organization under the leadership of Prime Minister and under the guidance of Bharatiya Janata Pary chief,” Vijay Rupani told the media after meeting Governor Devvrat.
Rupani said that he had worked as CM for five years which is a long time. He added that a change of guard is a natural process in the BJP. I will continue to work under the leadership of the BJP's national president.
The 65-year-old leader was sworn in as chief minister for the second time in December 2017.
While the reasons behind the resignation isn’t clear yet, BJP is likely to announce his replacement by evening as the party general secretary B.L. Santosh is holding meetings at the party headquarters. As per sources, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya is likely to succeed him as the next Chief Minister of Gujarat.
