Why does Kejri contest polls only to lose security deposits? Malviya ventures a guess

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya is amused by Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement that his party plans to contest the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Malviya said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been contesting assembly elections in other states, only to lose even security deposits on almost every single seat there.

He also said that the reason for AAP entering poll fray in states where it has no presence is because it could’ve “figured out that dishing out tickets is a money spinner”. He pointed out that AAP which had started out as an anti-corruption movement now knows that tickets can fetch good money.

Kejriwal had announced on Tuesday that his party plans to contest 2022 assembly elections in UP. He said AAP has been expanding its network and appointed Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh as chief of its UP unit. Some months ago, in August, the party had made Abhinav Rai as co in-charge of the state party. At that time, AAP had also announced that it will contest the 2022 assembly elections in Uttarakhand also.

Both in UP and Uttarakhand, the BJP is the ruling. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal had challenged Narendra Modi in Varanasi, riding on the surge of widespread support his party was getting, particularly in Delhi. It has also contested assembly elections in states like Gujarat and Goa, receiving almost negligible votes.
