Zaira Wasim quits films in the name of ‘Allah’

Bollywood star Zaira Wasim, who starred in blockbuster Bollywood flick “Dangal,” has quit films and put the reason on her work threatening her relationship with her religion.

Zaira, all of 18, in a post which she shared on her facebook, twitter and instagram social media accounts today, has mentioned that she didn’t want to succumb to the environment that “damaged my peace, imaan (conscience) and my relationship with Allah.”

Zaira has posted that even though she tried to reconcile herself that her work would somehow give her peace of mind, “I discovered my disease of doubt and error that my heart was afflicted with.”

“This journey has been exhausting, to battle my soul for so long. Life is too short yet too long to be at war with oneself. Therefore, today I arrive at this well-grounded decision and I officially declare my disassociation with this field,” Zaira Wasim has declared.

Recalling her conflicts within, Zaira has posted: “I carefully questioned the deepest source of my ideas of success, meaning and the purpose of my life. It can be a tough, complicated and sometimes an unimaginably lonely path, especially in today’s time…”

Quoting Allah from the various verses of Quran, Zaira says “By attaching my heart with the words of Allah, in the great and divine wisdom of the Quran, I (have) found sufficiency and peace.”

While the likes of Omar Abdullah and Shah Faesal have shown empathy for Zaira’s decision, famous author Taslima Nasreen has called her decision moronic. In a tweet, Taslima Nasreen wrote:

“Oh my Goosebumps! Bollywood’s talented actress Zaira Wasim now wants to quit acting because she thinks her acting career almost destroyed her faith in Allah. What a moronic decision! So many talents in Muslim community are forced to go under the darkness of the burqa.”

Zaira played the role of wrestler Geeta Phogat in Dangal (2016) which became the highest-grossing Indian film ever, collecting more than Rs 2000 crores worldwide. She then acted as an aspiring singer in the musical drama Secret Superstar (2017). While Dangal won her the national film award for best supporting actress, Secret Superstar got her Filmfare criticis award for best actress.
